The Nerdsletter Issue #35 – Granted the Rank of Master

I got some new years resolution stuff to discuss, as well as more Star Wars the Old Republic!  Let’s dive in!

GAMING

Right so first of all, I have finished the Jedi Knight Origin storyline in SWTOR.  This means I have 3/8 storylines finished on my way to Legendary account status (Sith Warrior, Jedi Knight, Jedi Consular).  After finishing the Knight origin I can agree that it is the closest I think we will get to a KOTOR 3, especially given how it ends.  It also shows that the Republic has a lot of issues.  But when you complete the story, you get the rank of Jedi Master, which is hilarious.  I am not going to continue playing the Knight though, as I find the class I chose (Jedi Shadow) to be a pain in the ass overall, even if stealth is amazing.  I do think the Jedi Knight is worth playing as a story though, and you should probably play this first if you are going to play all the storylines like I am, because the things that occur during the storyline will help explain

I have also continued my Imperial Agent on stream, which is going well.  I am literally 2 quest turn ins away from finishing the planet of Balmorra, which would have been done on stream had an Emergency maintenance event happened live while I was there.  I logged out with 2 minutes till the servers being shut down.  I am enjoying that, although I did switch my agents class to Operative, which is a melee centric stealth class, but the spec I chose is very bursty and easy to play.  It feels loads better then the shadow does, straight up.

One the Sith side, my Warrior and my wifes Inquisitor are doing well and finished the original class stories (again) for the Warrior and Inquisitor.  I forgot how…basic the end for the Warrior is.  The Dark Council says a few words, and you walk out.  The Sith Inquisitor though gets speeches, people bowing, all sorts of shit.  Next up for us is the “Epilogue” of the original class quests which is the planet Illum, and then we are gonna go straight to the Shadow of Revan Prelude / Shadow of Revan quest chains.

In the course of playing our characters, we also recently learned something horrifying that I want to mention here: You cannot, under any circumstances, abandon the Purple Planet or Class quests.  Or rather, you CAN do this, but you SHOULD NOT.  See, sometimes quests bug out.  In any other MMO, if a quest bugs out, you just abandon it and pick it back up, restarting everything.

SWTOR Story quests do not work this way.  For some reason, if you abandon a planet quest, you generally cannot get it back.  Meaning, if the quest bugs out and you abandon it, that’s it, you are done.  Occasionally you can pick it back up earlier in the chain by leaving the planet or logging out and back in, but most of the time?  Its just gone.  Instead, you end up having to move into the next zone of the planet and picking up the next chain from there.  How did we discover this?

Well, we got to the end of the first chain of the planet quest on Voss.  We entered the Healing Shrine Trial chamber for the quest, and one of the steps bugged out for me, and one step bugged out for my wife, meaning we could not progress the quest at all.  We then left the quest instance, and abandoned the quest.  And found we could not get it back.  After googling we discovered that while you CAN abandon these you should not, and instead you are supposed to hit the little “Reset” button that is in the quest log right next to the Abandon button.  We were able to continue the Voss planet quest when we got to the next Voss map, but missed out on the conclusion of that part of the planet storyline.  We also learned that if your class quest bugs out and you abandon it?  You have to put in a support ticket to get it fixed cause it just breaks progression completely.

Always use the RESET button.  Now, non-purple quests?  You can abandon those and pick them back up as much as you want for some reason.  This issue ONLY effects the purple storyline quests.  Personally I would prolly just use the Reset command though on any quest.

So yea, keep that in mind if you decide to play SWTOR.

On the FF14 front my wife and I did finish the alliance raid wing and new storyline content, and its pretty decent.  The alliance raid is intense as hell, but the trial was my favorite bit.  The story is also a bit sad.  I am curious to see where things go in 6.4 and 6.5.

READING / MANWHA

I basically am consuming endless manhwa as of late, instead of anything else.  And I DO MEAN ENDLESS.  Every time I catch up on the releases of one, I start another.  I cannot be stopped.  I also ran into a Chinese webtoon among the ones I am reading, called “Monster Pet Evolution” which is basically pokemon / Digimon, and I am into it.  The designs are cute yet horrifying and I love that shit.

FINAL WORD OF THE WEEK

Right, so, if you recall I made a few “gaming” new years resolutions.  I said I wanted to get Legendary rank in SWTOR which requires me to finish all 8 class stories, and I wanted to start learning the Neverwinter Nights Enhanced Toolset and make a small adventure by the end of the year.  Well, I am adding a few more things to my resolution.  One is to simply start exercising more often, whether its just walking or using the treadmill I have or even messing with my Ringfit again.  But I need to do something active to counter act my sedentary lifestyle.

My other ones are more hobby related.  First, I want to finish building my Kharadron Overlords fully.  And then that will end my foray into actual miniature wargaming.  I have no intention to ever play with them, and I will prolly paint them eventually.  But buying any more of these minis, when I really just want to build them, is not a cost effective hobby all round.  I might buy one or two Ogor Mawtribes items cause I really like them, but again it will just be to build.  Instead, I want to get more into Gunpla and plastic model kits like those.  They are simply more cost effective for what I really want to do, and after getting and going through COVID I am even less inclined to do anything with my Warhammer stuff.  So it just makes logical sense to pick one hobby and stick with it over splitting my limited free time and money on two.

I still enjoying watching battle reports for Age of Sigmar though, and seeing all the cool minis people create and build.  I just don’t want to spend my limited resources on that hobby myself.  I also want to still get an Ironclad for my KO, as a final model for it.  But that can wait.

And yea I know I waffle back and forth between these but welcome to my mind, it sucks here!

Anyway that’s all I really got for this week.  Stay nerdy, treat each other kindly, and I will catch ya next week!  Take care.
